50 shades of YOU

"He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away."
- Raymond Hull

Have you ever thought about the different you’s that you do?

There’s the work you, the in-laws you, the friends you, the parents you, the relationship you, the customer you, the gym you, the sweat-pants you, the suited up you, the shopping you, the Saturday night out you, the Saturday night in you.

But have you ever thought about which one is the real you?

Is one of the you’s that you give out to the world the actual you, or are you a mixture of you’s or maybe none at all?

Why is it that we change the way we act/speak/behave when we’re in different situations?

Like, we’ll yell at our parents and storm off one minute then the next we’ll be happy, loud and out going as soon as our friends are around.

Is one you happier than the other? Or is it even fair to compare you’s?

Penny for your thoughts.

(Why do Saturday nights in Sophie’s have to be so complicated!?)

MEAN GIRLS THE MUSICAL

Yep! So fetch!

During an interview with E! News on the red carpet at Sunday night’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, Tina Fey announced that she is closing a deal with Paramount Pictures to develop a movie based on her masterpiece, Mean Girls!

So who knows, we might see Cady, Regina, Gretchen again soon! There’s a 30% chance Karen Smith will be in it too.

Young and sweet only seventeen

"Youth is wasted on the young."
- Oscar Wilde

Most people say that life gets better after school ends.

And it does, for most.

But why is it that at just seventeen we are supposed to make, essentially, the most important decisions of our lives?

We’re supposed to know where we’re going in life, what we want to do, where we want to live, how we want to live.

All before actually becoming an adult.

I remember finishing year 12 and being so excited for the future, but now, at (almost) 21, I don’t see how any future I imagined at seventeen could match the future I see now.

We need to travel, to work, to experience life before life happens.

Why are we so focussed on kids making life choices, and why are we so oblivious to the fact that it’s okay for them not to have any friggen clue about anything.

Leave them alone.

The younger generations are always useless, anyway.

(Kidding.)

WANDERLUST

"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
- J.R.R Tolkein

We dream of places we’ve never been. We long for people we’ve never met. We crave the feel of a different ground beneath the same sun. When we have sun, we want snow. When we have rain, we want the sun. We spend the night hours dreading the morning, and the morning hours longing the night.

When we feel lost, we travel. And when we travel, we often feel lost.

Why do we always want to be somewhere we aren’t?

Is it because we are unhappy with the way things are? With the life we have? What is it about the unknown that makes it so exciting?

Wanderlust, it’s a bloody confusing thing.

Men..

There’s the man who’ll seem right for you, but isn’t right for you. There’s the man who’ll seem wrong for you, but you’ll think is right for you. There’s the man who’ll treat you good, who you’ll treat bad, and there’s the man who’ll treat you bad that you’ll treat good. There’s the Mr. Okay’s and the Mr. Definatley Not’s. There’s the Mr. You Should Be Like My Mum’s, and the Mr. Needy’s. And then, one day, there’ll be the Mr. Hel-lo Cutie, You’ll Do Me Just Fine Thankyou.

Six months of firsts...

Hey guys!

So today I've done something different. This is an assignment I did for Summer School on a major event in my life. It's lighthearted and will hopefully make you want to travel and leave you feeling good!

Ciao! X

Battle of the Sexes: Using the Men's

It’s 1am, you’re drunk and your bladder is too. She’s screaming for release and you feel as if you really might explode.
You look down the line you’ve been waiting in for what feels like forever. It’s packed. Women are dancing around ahead of you, holding their na-na’s and chatting away. The three stalls you’re all waiting for are stubbornly ‘occupied’.
This is a bad situation.
You look over at the lone guy walking out of the men’s stall – behind him there’s no line. You peek in without moving from your spot. No-one’s there.
But is it ever okay for women to use the men’s bathroom?
The answer to this is usually probably not, but I’ve thought of some scenarios that make it okay (sort of) to do it like a dude (not literally):
1.       You are absolutely, 100% positive that if you do not go right now you will pee. Everywhere.
2.       No-one is in the men’s bathroom, and it’s going to stay that way.
3.       The women’s is out of order (DRAMA).
4.       You own the bathroom.
But other than that, sadly, it’s not okay. You’re going to have to hold your kooka until that toilet is ‘vacant’.
You could risk it, but you’ll probably get booted out (take it from someone who knows), or maybe just maybe you could not drink as much. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa yeah, right.
