Snobby Salespeople

There’s been a lot of chatter lately (via Facebook) over the some-what rude/inconsiderate/lazy salespeople that cruise our local shops.

And no I’m not talking about customer service (yes, I too think customer’s are idiots), I’m talking about the way casual staff are treated.

So why do managers at dead-end jobs think they are so above everyone else?

Just recently a post was put on the Hungry Jack’s Facebook page (Burger King for most of you) that read ‘felt sorry for the poor girl working...who got absolutely blasted by her bitch of a manager in front of everybody...and from what I understand the girl was new!

What.

Sass & Bide have also copped some Facebook hate with their page receiving an angry complaint about the salesgirls’ attitude problem recently towards another worker. Over 40 people commented on the status agreeing. The post has since been removed.

In fact, look on most company Facebook pages and many will include complaints about the way staff are treated. Sadly, most of these are deleted.

When I first started working at 15, I had people above me in a dead-end job who thought they were everything amazing and could treat the workers below them like shit.

So this is a post for all the people who’ve been in jobs where they’ve been treated badly by those above them.

And to those ladies who are still at the same job, in the same position, still saying ‘do you want fries with that?’:

Treat that little 15 year old well, because in ten years they’ll not only be making more money than you, but you’ll probably be working for them. Ha.

Rant over.

Bitches on Instagram

I’m sure everyone’s familiar with this. The App that makes everyone a photographer and editor with filters that can turn images into sepia, olden-style and even ‘underwater’-style pictures.

But why is this even around and why the hell do we even care?

No I don’t care what meal you just cooked, no I don’t care about the outfit you are wearing and I definitely don’t care about some lyrics/random inspirational quote you wrote into your phone.

I get that it makes your images look cool and you want everyone in cyberspace to see how amazing and interesting your life is but WHY. Everyone knows what you show of yourself on the internet is a lie. We show the best because we want people to think the best of us. But if we’re constantly uploading photos of the things we’re doing, then how interesting can that life really be?

‘Hold on guys, stop talking. I need to Instagram this shit’.

Go away and cook that meal, wear that amazing outfit and live by that quote. But don’t be that bitch filling up everyone’s newsfeed with that shit, it’s unnecessary.

Or if you do use it, at least Instagram funny things. That shits hilarious.

Growing up or not growing at all?

Today as I was ‘studying’ (10 mins writing, 2 hours Facebook) I found myself looking at MySpace. Yep, MySpace. Lawl.

Since I chucked a tanty and deleted mine years ago, in a stroke of genius I guessed a friend’s password and voila! I was on.

Looking at all the pictures from what seems like forever ago, I couldn’t help but wonder:

Do we ever really change from who we are in High School?

And I don’t mean physically. Yes, we look better now, we’ve lost weight/put on weight, changed our hair, changed our clothes (thankfully). But, when it comes down to it, we still have the same values.

We are friends with people because they’re cool, or something we aren’t. We look up to people who we deem as successful. We follow trends (or push against them). We enjoy drinking and parties and socialising. We’re still addicted to our phones and the internet. We use food to make us feel better, and sitting in circles is the only way to have a conversation.

We still value ourselves above anyone else. We’re still full of hopes and dreams and wonder. We still gossip, we still have crushes. We make friends. We lose friends. We’re still obsessed with celebrities and clothes and magazines.

So maybe we never really change, we just get older. We might’ve become more worldly, seen new things, met new people but are we actually different?

Maybe we are, maybe we aren’t. But go forth! Young Jedi's:
Travel the world, try new food, meet new people, visit places that amaze you

But never forget that High School (love it or hate it) is part of the reason why you are the way you are.

Everything's better in hindsight anyway. Am I right, or am I right.

Gen-Yers (and below) all have the same disease

No it’s not contagious, no it’s not sexually transmitted (mind out of the gutter please). It’s social media-itus. Yeah yeah, I know it’s already been talked about. Just ask my mother! She thinks I’m obsessed with Facebook. And yeah, I probably am. I also have Tumblr and Twitter – both of which I regularly update.

Now, I’m in no way saying being obsessed is bad. Hey! If it weren’t for social media I wouldn’t have you guys reading my blog (which I am always so thankful for...so thankyou). I mean, I’m always on my iPhone looking at the internet, checking emails, checking notifications (well, tagged photos from the weekend really). The news says we are obsessed, impatient and socially-challenged. And lately it has got me thinking:

Why are we so obsessed with social media?

We come from an instantaneous generation. Everything has to be right now. How many times have you been frustrated by slow internet? Slow checkout lines? Slow traffic? Exactly. And with things like Facebook and Twitter, we can update to let everyone know what’s happening, right now. Post a status! Post a picture! Look at my coffee! Look at my dog! Look how much fun I’m having with my friends! Look at my boyfriend isn’t he sooooooooooo cute!

Seriously, that’s the shit I’m reading. And the obsession doesn’t stop there. I know I’m not the only one who doesn’t feel good about writing a status unless it gets a good amount of likes (and by good I mean 8 or more). If it gets less then shits awkward.

And I have to put a little side here: If you’re one of those bitches who gets 30 plus likes on everything you post...then please 1. Tell me your secret and 2. You really annoy me.

Another pressing point: WHY DO WE ADD PEOPLE WE DON’T EVEN LIKE!? Is it to compare ourselves to them? To make us feel better/worse? WHY!? I just don’t even.

I’m saying we are obsessed with ourselves, with being accepted. And in saying that I’m saying I’m obsessed with myself (not something I’d like to admit). We’re like toddlers saying ‘Mum! MUM! Look at me! Me me me!’

But those experts out there (seriously, do something better with your time), are also saying that we have poor ‘real-life’ skills. And by real-life skills I mean: face-to-face talking.

Sure, we may be wittier and braver over the internet, but everyone knows if some random adds you, they have 20 friends (none mutual) and their wall is filled with ‘Thanks for the add but do I know you?’ then you aint accepting that friend request.

What I’m saying is this: you need real friends to work it on the internet. And how do we Gen-Yers make real friends? We talk to them in person first. Stalk them on Facebook later.

So to all those experts spending their time criticising us over our social media obsession: Get over it, it’s just how times are changing – we have friends online because we have friends in real life. Oh, and it's my internet, I'll stalk if I want to.

Stalk me on Facebook here!
