A realistic reality?

Most of us have watched The Hills and we’ve seen Laguna Beach (and both series’ downhill spiral after the original girl-next-door said adios).

We fell in love with Lauren when she was just LC. We watched “Ste-PHEN” juggle two girls who were way out of his league. We witnessed man-juggling at its best with Kristin (who is now wifed up with a bub – who would’ve guessed). We saw Alex M fail to launch a music career. We watched “Jess-CAH” catastrophically fall from grace (whining and complaining the whole way). And we watched Heidi turn into Speidi.

We’re surrounded by a world that’s constantly giving us looks into other people’s lives. Jersey Shore, Geordie Shore, The Shire (lol), Big Brother, Teen Mom, 16 and Pregnant, My Super Sweet 16, The Life of Brian, The Real Housewives etc etc. – PS. special thanks to MTV for most of those.

But how real is ‘reality’ and why are we so obsessed with other people’s lives?

Do we need gratification? Are we better than them? Or, are our lives so boring that we have to watch the way other people live just for kicks?

But everyone knows The Hills was scripted. The Shire is definitely scripted. Big Brother is controlled by a bunch of people.

However, according to Psychologist George Gerbner ‘prolonged exposure to television can shape a viewer’s concept of the world’.

Cool.

So (providing that’s true) most of us see the world as a place where we should get drunk often, bang as many people as possible, always be on/getting ready for/setting up a date, have babies young (or perhaps don’t have babies at all), yell at people (particularly girls), fight with our boyfriends, attend glamorous events, and only concentrate on a social life.

Right?

A Bingle Bungle?

Nope! Seems we all are curious as to what it’s like Being Lara Bingle!

It trended in the Twitterverse WORLDWIDE – so it seems like people do care, one way or the other.

TIP: if you’re being a hater and you decide to express your hate by hash tagging a topic YOU ARE HELPING TO TREND IT. So for that reason, LB’s new show was hash tag number two in Twitter, second only to #BecauseOfOneDirection (um?).

There was lots of love and plenty of hate from the tweeters (“@horanyforlarry: You’re a turkey love.”), but she’s hijacking our lounge rooms and if you don’t like it THEN CHANGE THE BLOODY CHANNEL.

As someone who’s addicted to reality TV, I thought it was great. Seemed genuine, the bit where her Gran yelled at her (over the nude pics) made me feel awkward/embarrassed/sad and when she got pulled over for driving on a suspended licence I wanted to throw a brick at her. Seriously.

 It was nice to see her a-la-naturale for once, and her teeth are so effing white.

Also, why is her brother 28 and only just moving out of home?

Sorry, 28 and moving out of his parents' and into a house with his sister?

Really, her life seems pretty damn good (that apartment, anyone?) and I liked the show (not surprising), and whether you’ll admit it or not – there’s probably a (perhaps miniscule) piece of you that wishes you could be her too.

Oh Lara, you've done it again..

Ever wondered what it’s like to be Lara Bingle?

Me neither.

Not going to lie, when I first heard about this show I was all ‘HA. Going to be a flop!’ but to be honest now I’m all ‘OHEMGEEEE can’t wait to see it!’ – and no, I’m not kidding.

She has that kind of appeal of someone you love to hate. Like that girl at school you hated but secretly wanted so badly to be friends with.

I think she’s pretty. I love her hair. And she has a bangin’ body. Yeah, I know – what a bitch.

KIDDING.

I’m sure she’s a lovely girl, and hey, I would love to have my own t.v show too!

She’s relatable (unlucky in love, unlucky in life), and we’ve seen her naked.

It’s only on for ten weeks (half hour shows) and she’s actually not afraid to talk about her naked-ness. Kudos to her.

So I suppose we’ll have to wait and see whether she’s any good on camera or not (I’m guessing she is).

Apparently nothing is fake on the show (yeah, okay), but I mean – that’s how The Hills started out too! And we all know how that ended up...
